BACU's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) & Short Courses
CPD, or Continuing Professional Development, involves developing and maintaining skills, knowledge and experience gained as you work. CPD encourages going beyond the necessary training, providing employees with clear guidelines on how to succeed within their roles and progress to higher ones. The British Applied College in Umm al Quwain (BACU) is the ONLY CPD certified Accredited Provider in the area with the CPD Standards Office.​ CPD activities at BACU include up to 1-week Short Courses/Workshops on emerging new topics. Accredited CPD courses are legitimately recognised as fully certified achievements.

What does CPD certified mean?
If training is CPD certified, this means that it has reached the standards required by Advantage Accreditation. This means that all participants in CPD certified activities will have completed a CPD course.

What does CPD accredited mean?
Accredited CPD content has been evaluated for relevance and quality, meaning participants can be assured that the benefits provided by a course or activity will be applicable to their individual work. The learning value of such courses is high, and the courses are guaranteed to be a credible knowledge source.

Is CPD a qualification?
It is not possible to equate CPD to a qualification due to the difference in learning style. Although not classed as a qualification, CPD is recognised as highly valuable as it involves primarily skill-based learning. Education and training is an essential part of any career. The knowledge and experience you will gain from a CPD activity may not provide you with a qualification but will provide you with a plethora of credible skills applicable to your career.

Can you put CPD on your CV?
CPD is a valuable attribute on any CV as it showcases various achievements, including those specific to your current or future sector of work. CPD shows your dedication to your work and your extended industry-specific knowledge and experience in your field.

Are CPD diplomas recognized?
Certificates from CPD accredited courses are credible to employers and businesses as they which have been assessed to ensure high quality and integrity.

What do you get after the course? What is a CPD qualification equivalent to?
All participants will receive completion certificates. Also, the number of hours spent on accredited CPD courses are equated to CPD points. Certain employers may require employees to reach a set number of CPD points annually, others may suggest recording these points for personal development.

Training on the below courses have been previously developed and delivered to leading public and private companies in the UAE including (but not limited to): DEWA, RTA, Dubai Airports, Dubai Police, Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security and other Municipalities.

Who are our Trainers?
Trainers involved in the CPD short courses are highly qualified with Masters & PhD degrees in the field and with industry and practical experience. Following the same standards at the college, we used applied and hands on delivery models allowing students to learn by doing in a short period of time. Check out the profiles of our trainers HERE.
What is the schedule of the programs/short courses?
The short courses typically run after hours (6:00-9:30 PM) on weekdays and from 9 AM – 2 PM on Weekends. This will allow those working full time to join us for those short courses. Most courses are designed for a total of 3-5 days only to fit around work commitments. The courses are delivered face to face in our campus in Umm al Quwain with state of the art labs and facilities. Special schedule arrangements can be made for group deliveries.
What is the language of delivery?
English and Arabic. All courses are delivered in English however we also provide Arabic versions of most of the units.

What is the cost/fees for one short course?
Each short course/workshop will cost AED 3000. Groups of 5 or more will receive discounts from 10% to 50%.

Can companies request for custom made CPD short courses (not in the list below)?
Yes. We have long experience in different topics and we can customize the delivery to suit the company’s requirements. Once the content is prepared, we would submit it for CPD to be evaluated for relevance and quality and granted CPD points prior to delivery. Please feel free to contact us for more details.
